Henry in Sunshine

Henry has been painted many times. He seems to be saying "Are you taking another picture of me?" The sunlight glowing through those ginger stripes is irresistible, though.

Lightly Napping

Buddy is such a fun subject to paint with the sunlight bouncing all those wonderful colors around. The red in the window was a Folgers coffee can where I'd just started rooting sweet potato slips for the garden. Thank goodness it was pressed up against the window or Buddy would have pushed it off on the floor. He likes to clear the area when he naps and prefers hard surfaces, unlike my old Henry who prefers soft spots.

Baby Face

"Baby Face" SOLD
This is a painting of absolutely one of the sweetest cats that has ever owned us! Baby Face was the daughter of Zeke, a huge Maine Coon, and Sassy, a tuxedo sweetie. Baby Face would hook on over my husband's shoulder and nap there forever if he'd let her. Removing her sometimes took two people... one from behind to unhook the claws and the hook-ee to lift. It's a good thing he was wearing his old faded flannel overshirt...those claws were sharp!

Inky

Inky came to us small, sweet and 'fully loaded'! How she managed to find us at the back of a rather remote 100 acres is a mystery... or perhaps someone knew we would take care of her and her soon-to-be family. She had such a tiny frame that I feared she would pop as the days went by and her belly got bigger and bigger. We watched her closely and stayed with her during a birthing of six kittens. The first five arrived fine, but the sixth was stillborn...too large, too late and backwards. I'm glad we were there to help and that it was the last kitten instead of the first.
Inky was spayed asap and remained with us for many years. She was the blackest cat I've ever seen with the exception of a few white hairs on her throat. I'm glad she found us.

Waiting for Dinner

SOLD
If Smokey thinks he is going to get dinner this way, I'm thinking he is going to be one hungry kitty. I have yet to see the bird who will fly into a cat's mouth! Maybe he just wanted a bird's eye view of the yard on this beautiful day. Not to worry about the birds getting their dinner, though... we have many bird feeders.

Sisters

This basketful of cat is Muffin and her sister, Patches, in their teenage years. What is fascinating (besides both of them being able to cram into the same Easter basket) is that their black and white patterns meld together to form one 'cat mass' instead of two kittens. You've just got to love those expressions!

Birdie in the Window

SOLD
This is my oldest cat, Henry. The redbird is only a mild amusement, as he much prefers to stay curled up on his very own heating pad that is wrapped in one of my husband's old t-shirts. He remembers the chase from when he was young and will occasionally do that crazy little mouth twitch and make a squeaking meow if the birds get close enough, but he's no longer a threat.

"Cat Topography"

Well, this is a cat of a different color! I started this painting playing with the fuzzed pattern on the rug and was having such fun with it that I just kept right on going into the cat with the same technique. Believe it or not, this is Muffin, the same cat that I used for the very realistic painting posted two days ago. It's neat to compare the two!

"Sacked Out"

"Sacked Out" . . .This one speaks for itself. What more can I say?!
SOLD

Monday, April 6

"Muff" SOLD

Up close and personal with my sweet little Muffin. I was tempted to name this one "She's got a wild hair!" because those crazy long white hairs that stick out beyond her fur are one of her defining characteristics... along with her amber-dotted green eyes. I read somewhere that cats that have these coarse random white hairs all over are closer to their wild ancestry. I have no idea who Muffin's parents are, as she was adopted, but her skittish disposition suggests this may be true in her case.
Please note: The shadow side of her face is much more colorful and the shaded eye more visible than the scan depicts. The scanner seems to have trouble balancing all that bright white with the other colors.

Sunday, April 5

"Morris" SOLD

Morris is one BIG cat! He loves to get in my chair and then give me that "Drop dead!" look when I go to sit down. Do you know a cat like this that will NOT move?! He would never bite or scratch... it's just that he won't help me move him. He simply turns into a huge mound of jello, making it impossible to even scrape him out of the chair with one hand. No...I have to put down whatever I have in my hands and use both hands and quite a bit of muscle to lift him out. Then I put Morris in my husband's chair. I should've named him "Jabba the Hut"!

"Buddies" SOLD

This painting has a double meaning... Buddy is the name of this beautiful part-Siamese cat that was found as a kitten in an apartment complex dumpster. Two images of Buddy create the composition of two buddies sharing a moment in the sunshine. From humble beginnings, don't you think he has a delightfully smug expression? Maybe that's the Siamese showing through.

"Callie" SOLD

This sweet little calico cat lives next door and has the most amazing eyes, complete with natural eyeliner. But don't let that cute face fool you... she is the birds' worst nightmare!
